LUSH Ultrabland and Eau Roma Water – review

There’s something about using Lush products that just feels so right.

Knowing there are no nasties, no naughties, all fresh ingredients and the bottle does not read like the ingredients of a chemistry experiment puts my mind at ease that I’m not smothering my hair/face/body with awful harsh chemicals.

One of my beauty related New Year’s resolutions was to take better care of my skin. One of my worst beauty habits is being lazy with makeup removal – I always always always remove my makeup, no matter how tired/slightly squiffy I may be (!!!!) but I use makeup wipes. I know all the rubbing, scrubbing and pulling at the skin, especially the delicate eye area, is a big no no, but quite frankly it was just a convenience.

So I’ve been trying out a few cleansers, nothing too expensive or fancy, trying to find a good one at a reasonable price. I’ll probably do a review of others that I try :)

Lush’s Ultrabland cleanser paired with the Eau Roma Water toner are simply a dream team.

Let’s start with the cleanser…

Ultrabland

S - £6.75 L - £10.75 - available here

This is a thick, creamy, slightly oily-but-in-a-good-way consistency and works really quite well. Scoop a bit onto your (clean!) fingertips, melt the product by rubbing between your fingers and gently massage into the face. Gently remove with cotton pads dampened with warm water.  I do have to cleanse twice, sometimes three times if I’m wearing a lot of mascara, as it’s pretty hard to budge! When I was in a LUSH store years ago and first tried this product, the sales assistant drew a line on my hand with permanent marker and removed it so easily with a few cleanses with Ultrabland. This just shows how efficient it is – permanent marker I tell you, gone!

There’s no scent as such, it does have a slight smell but I think that’s just from the natural ingredients.  It removes my makeup really thoroughly and effectively, but it does leave a slight film on my skin which I really didn’t like the feel of. I HATE the feeling of my skin being oily, so that was the only downside of this product. I don’t think I could use this product on its own – even though it removes makeup really well, I’m not a fan of the feeling afterwards.

That’s where the toning water comes in…

Eau Roma Water

S - £3.95 L - £7.25 - available here

Now this stuff…this stuff is magical. Seriously I can’t get over how good it is!

I spray about five pumps onto a cotton pad, gently swipe it over my face after using the cleanser and it picks up every last trace of remaining makeup, cleanser, product, oil, everything (you can also spray directly onto the skin and then remove with a cotton pad). It has a wonderful subtle scent, feels so fresh and clean and generally makes my skin feel lovely. It’s pretty scary how much stuff comes off on the cotton pad when I’m using this – no matter how thoroughly I have cleansed and how certain I am I have no makeup remaining on my skin, this stuff still finds stuff to remove!

Here’s the proof….

This is to prove just how effective it is – Today I didn’t wear loads of makeup (a little foundation, mascara, bronzer, highlighter), and at the end of the day cleansed with Ultrabland. To my eyes there was absolutely no makeup left on my skin, but just LOOK how much extra the toner picked up…

( I hope you don't find this too gross...)

Yuck! Just look at what was left on my skin! See what i mean?!

Together these products are just great, on their own I’m not so sure.
Obviously this is just how it works for me, I’ve read some not so positive reviews of these products, but personally I absolutely LOVE them together!

Do you have any reasonably priced cleansers I can try? Let me know!

Speak soon!
